The Ebola outbreak is the largest epidemic of EVD (Ebola Virus Disease) to occur. North Americans have taken this epidemic to high levels. The United States diagnosed medical care-workers with Ebola, and thankfully Canada has not had a case of this horrific disease yet. The real question here is; are Canadians overreacting when it comes to the Ebola outbreak? In my opinion, yes. Ebola is not a new disease, but only since there is a threat on North American countries, it has become a serious epidemic. The disease was first discovered in 1976 (http://www.who.int/mediacentre/factsheets/fs103/en/). Since it only had a serious affect on African and third world countries, North Americans had not worried about the disease until November 2013 in Guinea that this became a serious issue. All over the world, countries worry about the Ebola outbreak. But are there not more serious issues in the world today? What about third world countries who STILL do not have a clean supply of water? What about HIV, Hep. B, etc? Should these issues and diseases be ignored? NO! Although Ebola may be a very deadly and tragic disease, there are still other deadly issues occurring in the world. Governments around the globe limit transit if necessary (such as Spain and US), creating quarantines, and community awareness. Yes, everyone should be aware of Ebola and the affect it has on the person who get it, but should they not also be aware that adults and children in third world countries are also dying everyday? Or that they do not have the health care system to even treat other diseases that our doctors can diagnose and treat here? It is a matter of social media that has put forth the epidemic of Ebola and how countries and government around the world handle the outbreak. The point here is that Ebola is a serious issue and should receive attention, but so should other issues and diseases around the world today. Countries that have cases of Ebola may be taking it very seriously, but Canada has not yet had a single case. This globe and mail article suggests that we are jumping the gun when it comes to Ebola; "The government of Canada recently announced a series of measures to protect Canadians from the spread of the disease. However, these measures are not backed by current scientific evidence and serve instead to undermine public health and humanitarian efforts, and stigmatize the countries and individuals most affected." Canada has also been demanding that travellers from outbreak places be monitored for 2 to 21 days. Is this ridiculous? Maybe. Considering the fact that there has not yet been one single case of Ebola in Canada, is this not a little dramatic? Although we may feel this is a safety precaution, are travellers going to be satisfied with their stay here in Canada when they must be monitored during their stay? NO! We are the country everyone has known for as kind, caring, loyal and trustworthy, but how can there be trust if a traveller must be monitored during their trip because of one Ebola case in their home country? It is clear that around the world we are experiencing bigger issues than Ebola that also need attention. Not only Canadians, but everyone around the world needs to realize that there are other problems that need to be addressed. |

This description can also fit what an internet troll is; ugly and slow-witted. Before the internet, bullies were the kids who called others names or physically abused someone to amuse themselves. But now bullies are known as internet trolls who feed off of peoples angry reactions to their hateful comments. Today, if someone walked up to another and punched them square in the face, those around that person would be in complete shock and that person would feel guilt. On the internet, someone who calls another a "fag" or another name, it doesn't have the same affect on people who read it nor on the person who says it as there is not an instant reaction. In the spirit of Halloween this is a video on internet trolls: Those reading this can probably admit to being an internet troll at least once in your life. This does not necessarily mean just negative comments, but a brutal annoyance that gets in the way of someones goals on the internet. I have personally not dealt with an internet troll before but I have witnessed it and it just seems so pointless. These trolls do not feel guilt, they see people respond with more negative comments and they continue to feed off of them. When trolls are in a group of people the reactions they see around them, such as laughter, are what pushes them to do it more. Choose to hang around a group of people who would tell you when things get too far. Unfortunately there are plenty of trolls that hangout and annoy/bully innocent people on the internet together. College humour is one of the funniest youtube channels I know and they made an internet troll video that really proves the way they feed off of reactions: Trolls are truly an annoyance and the best way to deal with them is to not react. Try to remain calm and not let them disturb you.
Before you begin to doubt my title take a quick peak at these pictures... Beautiful isn't it? This song quote says it all, "concrete jungle where dreams are made of, there's nothing you can't do, here in the New York". A couple pictures I took on the best trip of my life. The people, the movement, the buildings, the taxis, the honking, it all adds up to the most amazing city. It is literally the city that NEVER sleeps. From the moment you exit the Lincoln Tunnel, a tunnel built under water that leads directly to New York City, you are amazed at every little thing that you see. The top of the rock observatory a total of 70 stories high is the best view of New York you will get. The picture above on the left was taken on the 70th story of that spectacular observatory. The most amazing place in New York City that really captures the movement and rush of people and the aspect of 'the city that never sleeps' is Times Square. The stores are levels and levels deep and the walkways are full of people rushing from place to place. You really can't explain how it feels to rush through these people, I sit here trying to explain the feeling but it is almost impossible to put in to words. I want to prove to you, the readers, that not only Times Square, but New York City as a whole is the most amazing city but it is so difficult to do. You get this feeling in your body thats unlike any other and your mind goes almost blank, it's like being born again into a brand new world. These people all have a place to go and a place to be but does anyone really take the chance to stand by and look at this place? I got to along with a bus full of friends and damn it is crazy. I feel like you aren't convinced yet. I feel like the way I have explained the feeling of being there isn't persuading you enough. Take a quick peak at this video about Times Square: People wanna travel here for a reason! The iconic skyline, its the home of famous musicians and artists, they are cultural, because the countless amounts of theatres, a 24 hour city, its modern, and lastly because you can truly pursue any dream.
Whether you were born in New York City, take a trip there, or move there one day, it will affect your view on the world and your life. It is truly the most amazing city you will ever visit...and if you still don't believe me...see it for yourself. P.S. This is a picture I took in time square with my friends..want me to convince you Lambert is the best teacher ever? That is a whole other..difficult blog! I am kidding. Abortion: any various surgical methods for terminating a pregnancy, especially during the first six months.
As of today, October 3rd 2014, abortion is legal. I do not understand how it is still legal, you are committing murder, and taking away life from something that now won't ever get to experience it. Some people may argue that abortion is "a way out" when you are not prepared to be a parent, but whether it's a decision or a mistake to have a child, it is wrong to take its life. Imagine if my mother wasn't prepared when she was in her early 20s to have a child. I would not be here today writing this blog, I would not have even been given a single shot at life. But in a single, flashing moment, my life was taken away because of an interference with someone else's. I was given a shot at life though, and I thank god and my parents everyday. But I am writing this blog for those whose lives were taken away... "In 2010, the latest year on record, 64,641 abortions were performed on Canadian women as reported by hospitals and clinics" and "Between 1988 and 2010, over two million babies (2,263,482) lost their lives to abortion." Canadians are known as the "nice" country of the world, but with these stats, I am truly disappointed. Women and men need to be prepared to have a child, and when it becomes a mistake, it is still your responsibility. Back to the question of this blog, should abortion be illegalized? Let me remind you of the 64,641 reported in 2010...now back to the question. Canada is one of the few nations with NO legal restrictions on abortion. It is said that three Canadian doctors have been shot, all because they have performed abortion surgeries. When someone sits and thinks about abortion being legal in some places and illegal in others, consider reasons why it should be illegal everywhere. When asked the question "what if I'm not ready for a child?" well then learn how to, and get support from public health services or family, or there is always adoption. When asked "what if I'm not financially stable?" try your best to get help or a job to support your baby, or look in the positive direction of a kid. Just because you do not want to deliver your child, does not mean that someone out there does not want to raise it, therefore adoption is a positive outcome for everyone. In conclusion, abortion is a sad surgical method of terminating children, you can face directions of adoption or try and get help. You must realize the decision you are making, by extinguishing the life of a child, and not even giving them a shot in this world. Rates reference: http://abortionincanada.ca/stats/annual-abortion-rates/ Where do I start? As I begin writing this blog I am wondering if I should give advice to boys on us girls, or if I should RANT about how stupid they can be (sorry boys and sorry Lambert). My blog about how guys can be really really dumb sometimes would be WAY too long so I am gonna take the time within this blog to help boys understand and communicate with us "complicated" girls.
This is all from my own perspective on guys so I am not speaking for every girl out their but from my own personal thoughts and opinions. Tip #1- DECIDE Do not under any circumstances lead a girl on if you aren't sure about it. There is nothing worse then getting our hopes up only to let us down again. Trust me, it sucks. And if you aren't "ready" for a relationship or a girl, don't test out your readiness on us because you're just gonna hurt us even more. And lastly, don't make promises you cant make, girls don't forget what you say so please don't promise something you know won't actually happen. Tip #2- TEXTING A lot of guys think we want you to text us 24/7 but we truly don't. Whether you think so or not, we actually have lives and friends too :) some girls do like cute messages and that is something that the guy has to personally decide on. Just don't ignore us ;);) Tip #3- REMEMBER WE ARE GIRLS Some girls (not speaking for everyone) but some girls need you once they have you, so like I said in tip #1 don't get our hopes up because we genuinely care for you A LOT. And we are moody, so just try to remember that we can't help how sad we are some days and how happy we are the next. Tip #4- UNDERSTAND We try to help you understand our problems but it doesn't always go so well. Just try to care for a girl when she has a problem and if you can't understand where she is coming from just try to make her laugh. Tip #5- LISTEN There truly is nothing better than a guy who will sit and listen, not pretend to listen but actually listen to what we have to say. And some guys may complain that when you listen to us you think we will friend zone you and call you our best friend because you'll listen to our problems, no. You are the guys that girls end up falling head over heels for because we love how much you CARE which leads me to my next point... Tip #6- CARE Prove it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Actions mean more than words boys. So when you tell us you care, your next step is to prove it to us. No we don't expect flowers and chocolate all the time as your way of proving you care! We just like to know that when something is going on in our lives you wanna be there for us, or if we are bored that you wanna come watch a movie and make us smile...just saying. Tip #7- MOMS This tip is short and sweet. The way you treat your mom means everything, if you are a meanie (a**) to your mom, you're a meanie (a**) in general. If you're caring and kind to your mom, you're genuinely nice and kind and caring and loving. Tip #8- INTROS Introducing us to family and friends makes us feel more important, like you're proud to be with us. Friends is general, but family is a huge step and shows you really like us. Tip #9- PERSONALITY Your personality means everything after we get to talking, the way you treat other people reflects on who you are as a person. I personally don't understand how girls find boys who bully others attractive or something. If you bully others its just reflecting on you being a genuinely bad person and no girl (in my opinion) wants someone like that. Be kind to others, not just to impress us, but to be a good person overall. Tip #10- EXPECTATIONS Guys always think that girls expectation are too high and that you can't live up to them. But are the tips I have listed above really that hard? Its not even like these tips are gonna only help with girls, but they overall make you a good person. Is being a good listener and being caring that hard? No. Is treating your mom with respect hard? No. Is deciding if you like us hard? Maybe sometimes but its a decision that can be made. Is making promises you'll actually keep hard? Is having a good personality and not bullying hard? No. All questions you gotta ask yourself because not only do girls like these things, but they will also help make you overall a better person. Be Mr. Nice Guy. Be him. Respect.
Such a commonly used word in families, homes, schools, classrooms, and people in general. But does anyone really understand the term? A broad word that can be used in SO many different situations. Respect. Defined as "esteem for a sense of the worth or excellence of a person, a personal quality or ability, or something considered as a manifestation of a per sonal quality or ability." But does that really define respect? No. Respect can be used to appreciate another human being. Respect their bodies, personalities, privacy, personal items, homes, or families. Respect a teachers work space, respect them as a human, and respect their power. Respect yourself, your body, your family, and your surroundings. Respect everything, everyone, everyday. When it comes down to it, respect is having a heart. It is knowing the difference between right and wrong, being caring and loving, and treating people nicely and the way they should be treated. That is how i define respect. The biggest aspect of respect, that i believe in, is respecting others. Don't bully someone just to be funny, don't expose someone just for jokes, don't tell someones secret to someone if it is not meant to be repeated, respect peoples skin colour, respect religion, and just overall be a good person. A prime example of respect is the earthquake in Haiti, when Canada and the U.S were sending money and aid to help them get through this disaster. Within my school we were doing food drives and bake sales to raise money towards the cause. At the end of the day you have to learn the term respect and apply it everyday to everyone. |
